TORONTO — Five things to watch for in the Canadian business world in the coming week:
WestJet flight attendants
A weeklong contract ratification vote by flight attendants at WestJet is set to wrap up on Monday afternoon. The tentative deal reached with the Calgary-based airline after a one-day strike earlier this summer includes a more than 18 per cent wage hike over three years, as well as a new duty period premium that adds compensation for work done on the ground.
Bank earnings
Canada’s big banks will report their third-quarter results this week. BMO Financial Group and Scotiabank report on Tuesday followed by National Bank on Wednesday. CIBC, Royal Bank of Canada and Toronto-Dominion Bank report their results on Thursday.
EQB results
EQB Inc. will report its third-quarter results after the close of markets on Wednesday followed by a conference call with financial analysts on Thursday morning. It will be the first quarterly report by EQB since it closed its acquisition of the PC Financial business.
Canada-India
Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne and Indian Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman meet Thursday, including at an event held by the Canadian Club Toronto where they will have a discussion about the future of the Canada-India relationship. They are expected to talk about ways to build new partnerships and reinvigorate the bilateral relationship.
GDP report
Statistics Canada will report its figures for gross domestic product for June and the second quarter as a whole on Friday. The agency’s preliminary estimate for June suggested growth of 0.2 per cent for the month and a 3.4 per cent annualized gain in the second quarter.
